Farm Demo Conference

Are-you interested or involved in on-farm demonstrations? Do you want it to be as effective as possible? Then you are welcome to join the Farm Demo Conference. You will learn from others, discover the do’s and don’ts in organizing demos and test and try different tools.
For whom? Farm Demo* brings together all farmers, advisors, researchers, policy makers, industries and other actors that want to learn, discuss, share experiences and good practices for organising farm demonstrations with impact.
What? During the conference you will be able to:
> Listen! Commercial farmers and innovation actors, actively involved in on-farm demonstration will share their experiences.
> Join in! During parallel discussions, you will be able to discover how demonstrations can be organized successfully to optimise impact.
> Interact! You will be able to actively test and try different tools for effective demonstrations.
> Participate! A round table discussion with an expert panel will discuss the future of farm demonstrations in the EU.

>>> Farm Demo is a close collaboration between three European projects funded under Horizon 2020. They all aim to enhance peer-to-peer learning and focus on farm demonstrations as a tool to boost innovation uptake:
>>> AgriDemo-F2F and PLAID focus on understanding the role of European commercial demonstration farms between actors involved in on-farm demonstrations. These projects are developing a geo-referenced searchable online inventory of demonstration farms. This inventory will build an online Farm Demo-Hub community. New registrations and members are always welcome.
>>> NEFERTITI focuses on the establishment of 10 interactive thematic networks covering the three main agricultural sectors: animal production, arable farming and horticultural production. They bring together 45 regional hubs of demo-farmers and innovation actors - advisors, cooperatives, NGOs, industry, education, researchers and policy makers. The outputs of AgriDemo-F2F and PLAID will be used as input to set up three annual campaigns of on-farm demonstrations.

14th anniversary of the "International European Forum on System Dynamics and Innovation in Food Networks"

The Forum is endorsed by EAAE (European Association of Agricultural Economists) as its 176th European seminar, by IFAMA (International Food and Agribusiness Management Association) and other scientific associations.
It is the objective of the Forum to provide an interdisciplinary and creative discussion environment that generates new ideas for innovative and multidisciplinary research dealing with management, market, consumer, policy, organization, engineering, and related domains. Participation is limited to allow for a fruitful discussion environment.

Digital 2019: global internet use accelerates
PAT – Precision Agriculture Tools plugin has been released via the Official QGIS plugin repository
The PAT plugin for QGIS contains the tools for the processing and analysis of precision agriculture data including the well-established workflows developed for constructing maps using on-the-go data. Tools are also available for users to analyse data collections from on-farm experimentation. PAT comes fully documented with a detailed user manual.
PAT is only available in the Windows environment for the QGIS Long Term Release (LTR) versions between 2.18.21 and 2.18.26. QGIS v2.18.26 can be downloaded using these links.

To fully use the on-the-go data workflow, users must also download and install VESPER.
PAT can be found in the QGIS plugin repository by ensuring experimental plugins are visible, and searching for PAT – Precision Agriculture Tools. In depth instructions on how to install PAT, can be found from page 7 in our user manual.
If you are new to GIS and QGIS the have a look at QGIS’s – A Gentle Introduction to GIS focusing on the Vector Data, Raster Data (first 5 modules at least) and coordinate reference systems chapters.
If you are using QGIS for the first time or need a refresher, then have a look at the video tutorial modules 1-5.
It covers the basics of loading, symbolising and creating data. Please be aware that these modules are prepared using an older version of QGIS and some dialogs may look slightly different.
If you experience any errors or bugs or have any questions, please let us know by sending an email to PAT@csiro.au. Please also feel free to send us suggestions for addition tools that you would find useful but which are not currently in PAT.

First interactive map with AI detected fields and crops
This unique interactive map allows you to explore and compare fields
and crops in Europe and the USA. Zoom in and get to know the field:
the hectarage, the crop, and the field score. In addition, on the chart,
you can see how the field has changed over the past three years. Zoom
out and understand the world: fields’ sizes and crops are displayed
for each region. Compare ratings and get insights for more than 40 countries
on the desktop and mobile devices.

>>> How does it work?
The map was created by a Belarus-based ag-tech startup OneSoil. We build
technologies that analyze satellite imagery using machine learning algorithms.
It took us half a year to create the map. First, we learned how to clean
the satellite photos from artefacts to ensure correct processing of
information. Second, we trained an algorithm to allocate field boundaries
automatically. For the map, we simplified the boundaries so that the
visualization is really fast. The accuracy of crop classification, or
F1 score, is 0.91. Third, we trained another algorithm to automatically
determine a crop that grows on a field. Fourth, we created what you
can now see: the map.

Better data means a stronger farm (2015)
As the farming industry matures and as farms consolidate, many professional
farms are seeking to run their businesses more efficiently and profitably.
To do so, farms are adopting tools and techniques used for years in
other industries.
In July 2014, Granular launched an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)
system that helps the farming community manage the entire farming cycle

Topic group 1: “Sensors” This topic group refers to the development or optimization of sensors and electronics for agricultural applications, such as field scouting and crop parameters monitoring. Particular sub-topics could be: - New sensors (optical, reflectance, etc.) - Wireless sensor networks - Image processing Agricultural robots are also within this topic, focusing on automation and control technologies to optimise robotic applications in agriculture.
