Objectives: - to encourage research in the area of informatics in agriculture,
  forestry, and the food industry;
- to provide support to the exchange of knowledge and experiences related
  to informatics in agriculture, forestry, and the food industry;
- to improve training and education in informatics in agriculture, forestry,
  and the food industry.

Activities: GIL:
- organises annual meetings, workshops and seminars;
- publishes books and the quarterly journal "Zeitschrift fuer
  Agrarinformatik";
- encourages working groups on specific topics.

Other GIL regularly grants prizes
- to outstanding research achievements by students and junior researchers,
- and to outstanding software and hardware products.
