Map of Europe
This will help to sharpen your jigsaw abilities - and offer a bit of educational
fun to the kids at home! If anyone - apart from central Europeans - gets 90%
correct, please let me know. Happy summer!

Point of view (in Fr-English): CAP surface declarations through the
Internet
In France, TelePAC was mainly used by cattle breeders when large crop producers
made most of their declarations on paper. In large crop areas such as the Paris
basin, there are not many details to change from one declaration to the following
one. But for cattle breeders, declarations are more complex and environmental
obligations more difficult to fulfil. This is the reason why cattle breeders
prefer to ask advisory organisations to help them. These organisations help
the farmers to use the Internet solution. At the end, the regions which very
much used Internet solutions are not these ones that we expected.

International Congress for Observatories on Information Society
5 – 6 October 2006 - ALICANTE
The impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) on modern society
and the future of companies and institutions are obvious, to the point that
the implementation grade of the Information Society in a territory is considered
today a key factor to know its development grade. The Observatories on the Information
Society have become a fundamental element to understand the progress of our
society from this point of view.
In this context, CEVALSI, a Valencian Observatory of the Technological and Knowledge-based
Society within the OVSI Foundation, is holding, with the support of Valencian
Government, the I Congress for Observatories on the Information Society.
This will be a multiterritorial encounter, with the main aim of becoming a permanent
forum, open to the exchange of ideas and experiences, in which the problems
related with concept analysis and measurement, statistical processing, main
indicators and cooperation can be debated. A forum in which experts from several
countries can provide their own particular vision on this phenomenon, whether
it be regional, national or international, where the creation of working groups
is fostered, and where observatories have the opportunity to exchange experiences
and agree on the base lines of a useful methodology for their work.
There are several outputs we can expect from this event, but we can point out
two important milestones: the creation of the International Network of Observatories
on the Information Society which objective is to become a reference point towards
the establishment of methodologies and indicators, which are verifiable, comparable
and approved by consensus by all the participants to this encounter. And also
the establishment of a “Key aspects catalogue” for the appropriate measurement
of the Information Society progress, which must compile all the aspects that
we consider, should be included in the studies and projects developed in this
field.

Viva Colombia
tanta gente queriendo entrar?.......
Porque nunca hay luz, la silla eléctrica no sirve, los clavos de la cama se
los robaron todos y el diablo viene, firma y se va.

Agri islamism
An old Arab lived close to New York City for more than 40 years. He would
have loved to plant potatoes in his garden, but he is alone, old and weak. His
son is in college in Paris, so the old man sends him an e-mail.
He explains the problem:
"Beloved son, I am very sad, because I can't plant potatoes in my garden.
I am sure, if only you were here, you would help and dig up the garden for me.
I love you,
Your Father"
The following day, the old man receives a response e-mail from his son:
"Beloved Father, Please don't touch the garden. It's there that I have
hidden 'the THING'.
I love you, too,
Ahmed"
At 4pm the US Army, The Marines, the FBI, the CIA and the Rangers visit the
house of the old man, take the whole garden apart, search every inch, but can't
find anything. Disappointed they leave the house.
A day later, the old man receives another e-mail from his son.
"Beloved Father,
I hope the garden is dug up by now and you can plant your potatoes.
That's all I could do for you from here.
I love you,
Ahmed
