GeoFARMatics 2010 International Conference
24-26 November 2010 - COLOGNE, Germany
I visited today the ISAGRI company (800 employees) that is the agricultural ICT company that dominates the French market (200000 farmers equipped with PC and connected to the Internet). We discussed the presentation that the French association of agricultural software editors will make at GeoFARMatics on 24 November.
To give an idea about the activity of Isagri, just on figure; the Isagri help desk receives every year +250 000 phone calls…
This participation of commercial editors (like Isagri in France or Progis in Austria) will be really interesting: nothing will be done in the domain of agricultural ITC without their active contribution. They know the needs of their clients and have the means to commercialise their solutions.
I believe that today co-operation between commercial ICT companies and universities and R&D organisation is more necessary than ever.
We should discuss this point in Cologne…
See: http://www.geofarmatics2010.org/

The conference brings together people from industry (software companies, machine manufacturers, system developers), science and public authorities active in both (geo-)information management and administration of agriculture with its environment.
If you have not registered yet to participate, please do it now. You then still have the chance for submitting short-presentations (http://www.geofarmatics2010.org/submitting.html).

Novel solutions, recent discussions and new concepts for managing of production information and geo-information in agriculture as well as the relatedvalue added chain of production will be presented at the conference. Plenary sessions feature state of the art insight into relevant aspects of ICT for the agribusiness being presented by internationally renowned keynote speakers. Separate paper sessions, short presentations, workshops, poster sessions and exhibitions address more specific topics (see program at the conference website (http://www.geofarmatics2010.org/overall-program.html).

Those of you, who have registered will receive the first draft of the 'Cologne-Declaration on ICT in agriculture'. This draft is prepared by the organizers of the conference. You have the chance to give your input and support the further development of the declaration. It will be discussed with the participants at the conference. At the end of the conference the declaration will be published as a conclusion, pinpointing urgent needs in research and development, infrastructure and training. It is directed to politics, administration and research.

The ring of a telephone - that'll do it!
A dog lover, whose dog was a bitch, and 'in heat', agreed to look after and house her neighbour's male dog, while they were away on vacation.

She had a large house and believed that she could keep them apart, but as she was drifting off to sleep she heard awful howling and moaning sounds, rushed downstairs and found the dogs locked together, in obvious pain and unable to disengage, as so frequently happens when they mate.

Unable to separate them and perplexed as to what to do next, although it was late, she called the vet, who answered in a very grumpy voice.

Having explained the problem to him, the vet said. "Hang up the phone and place it down alongside the dogs. I will then call you back and the noise of the ringing will make the male lose his erection and he will be able to withdraw".

"Do you think that will work?" she asked.

"It just worked for me!" he replied.
