My brother Gabriel, member of the Royal Society (UK)
The origins of the Royal Society lie in an 'invisible college' of
natural philosophers who began meeting in the mid-1640s to discuss the
new philosophy of promoting knowledge of the natural world through observation
and experiment, which we now call science.

‘Integrated’ crop production systems are better for the environment
than both conventional and organic? (read in Crop Protection Monthly)
Researchers at the Oxford University’s Wildlife Conservation Research
Unit (WildCRU) have published a study: Comparing energy balances, greenhouse
gas balances and biodiversity impacts of contrasting farming systems with
alternative land uses. (H.L. Tuomisto et al, Agricultural Systems, Volume
108, April 2012, Pages 42–49). The study shows that farms that target
maximum crop yields but using environmentally-friendly practices could
be better for the environment than both organic and conventional farms.
Professor David Macdonald, who directed the WildCRU research, commented:
“Integrating the needs of food production and wildlife conservation is
a major 21st Century challenge – humanity needs both, and it’s only by
taking account of all the costs and benefits that the best compromises
can be found.”

Community benefits of individual investments can be calculated
Building construction companies can promote their prices besides normative
prices. Community inhabitants can calculate impact of roads, bridges,
sewage or airports on the community welfare and elect proper representatives
or contribute to programmes of political parties.

Real-Corp 2012 – The way to a sustainable and long-lasting stability…
30 cm Microsoft Ortho-Images for Europe as base for Sustainable Urban
and Regional Planning
GIS and images are the base for planning, monitoring and control in
urban as well as rural areas.A stand-alone geographic information system
with embedded ortho-images of Microsoft is the entry into sophisticated
GIS-management for different branches (we identified more than 120 branches
and these are certainly not all). A combined solution, consisting of PROGIS
WinGIS, an easy to use, easy to learn, powerful and cost efficient GIS
software with extensive geographic application possibilities and facilities
together with integrated online map data of Microsoft Bing Maps, which
are high resolution and accurate aerial images. The flights for these
images started within the frame of the global ortho project of Microsoft
in 2010 and a finalization of whole Western Europe is expected by the
end of 2012.
Look at this map to see the actual disclosure status (please select the
current release). Where these accurate images are still missing – the
existing elder ones or satellite images can be used in the meantime
The standard applications spectrum ranges from community to farm/forest/land
management, from the management of the environment to that of natural
risks and resources, from logistics, to precise and virtual farming, from
GeoINFOtainment to the pipeline management.
At Real Corp we want to especially highlight some solutions developed
by partners on top of this GIS-solution. An application helps to maintain
infrastructure facilities, as streets and paths, channels, and water supply.
Another one is to model the execution and implementation of construction
policies and for the management and moderation of the Building Regulations
or a system for the collection and management of supply networks.
If other customized solutions are needed, the ActiveX developer component
provides to application developers the possibility to link their application
very easily with WinGIS and the embedded Bing Maps in order to visualize,
edit and administrate their data.
Remark: As spring campaign we offer as special solution which can be used
by everyone (not only by software developers) “WinGIS” with 50 sessions
on “Bing Maps” for Euro 36,00.
>>> Some basic features:
- Creating an editing maps based on Microsoft Bing Maps imagery and services
- Integrated database module for storing attribute data
- Data exchange with other standard GIS and CAD software products
- Analysis functions like thematic maps
- Printing of maps
