Will there be enough plant nutrients to feed a world of 9 billion in 2050?
Will there be enough plant nutrients to feed a world of 9 billion in 2050? is the central question addressed by a JRC study. This exercise was based on consultations with experts and a thematic workshop focused on three areas of interest:
1) the demand for fertilizers to sustain crop production necessary to feed the world in 2050;
2) perspectives on the supply of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K) to world agriculture and
3) the role of innovation and technology in changing the match between demand and supply of fertilizers. Implications of the main findings for current EU and international policies were addressed.
"There is no specific reason to be alarmed about the overall supply of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus for the world's agriculture but because of changing conditions in production, demand and use, continuous vigilance is called for."

Green Ideas Project
Green Ideas Project is organizing its second event following the successful launch of Green Ideas Events in 2011, in Mesta, Chios, Greece. The Green Ideas 2012 event will take place from October 22nd to 24th, 2012 and will be hosted by the University of Gastronomic Sciences at Pollenzo, Bra, Italy. It will take place right before the 6th Slow Food International Congress to be held this year in Turin, simultaneously with the "Salone del Gusto" and "Terra Madre" events.

This year, Green Ideas will expand on its initial design challenge on how we may create collaboration opportunities for communities to share green knowledge, also exploring innovative educational methods that educators may engage to take advantage of e-Learning technologies and tools in their everyday work. For this purpose, it will join forces with the European initiative Open Discovery Space in order to also organise a Creative Facilitation Lab for educators that would like to learn how to use design-thinking methods to inspire and engage their networks. Registration to the events is needed, since there is a maximum number of participants that can be accommodated. Please visit Green Ideas online, to find out all the necessary information and get involved!

Smart Agri-Food pilot receives lot of attention during ‘Celebration of Agrologistics’
The pilot ‘quality controlled flower chain’ was present at the ‘Celebration of Agrologistics’ on the Floriade in Venlo, The Netherlands. During the event, which celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Dutch Agrologistics Platform, over 300 visitors were inspired by innovative developments in the logistics of the food and agribusiness. The pilot focusses on the opportunities for dynamic, quality controlled logistics by integrating RFID and quality sensors with the help of internet. It is part of the European project Smart Agri-Food, which aims to boost the use and application of future internet technologies in the agri-food industry.

The pilot was introduced by Edwin van Lenthe of Baas Plantenservice, and by Nicole Koenderink and Robbert Robbemond, both working for Wageningen UR, The Netherlands. A live demonstration gave the visitors a glance at the future of quality controlled logistics.

Hello all. So you want to become a bullfighter?
First, take a look at the "kindergarten sessions" below - lots of volunteers but definitely not for the squeemish. I'm surprised at how agile they are - definitely no country for old men.
Enjoy.

May remark (GW): We have the same kind of fiesta in SW France but I never participated!

A water Bed in a German furniture store
Note that the sign says: "Do not get on the bed, but oh well. The best way to motivate people to do something is to put up a sign saying "Don't...!"

You can live in the Deep South where...

1. You can rent a movie and buy bait in the same store.

2. "Y'all" is singular and "all y'all" is plural.

3. "He needed killin" is a valid defense.

4. Everyone has 2 first names: Billy Bob, Jimmy Bob, Mary Ellen, Betty Jean, Mary Beth, etc., etc.

5. Everything is either "in yonder," "over yonder" or "out yonder." It's important to know the difference, too.
