25 October 2012 - POLLENZO, Bra, Italy,
The "Workshop on Agricultural Education, Methods, Practices and Technologies"
(AgEdWS12) will be an event of the Green Learning Network, formerly known
as Agricultural Learning Repositories Task Force (AgLR-TF). It will take
place at Pollenzo, Bra, Italy, on October 25, 2012, and it will be collocated
with Green Ideas 2012 (http://greenideasproject.org).
The workshop will be structured in a way that will enable stakeholders
to understand the various steps included in the development of educational
material in the agricultural context, from the development of a learning
resource until its publication in a related web portal.
The workshop is addressed to people involved in education in the context
of agriculture and green topics in general, such as educators, teachers,
trainers and advisors, as well as content developers, providers and publishers.
It will consist of presentations, demonstrations of tools and portals
as well as interactive hands-on sessions that will enable participants
to better understand the use of the tools and the corresponding workflows.

The OSCAR Project
It is widely recognised that human activities are making a significant
contribution to increased concentrations of atmospheric greenhouse gases
(GHGs), with serious implications for our future climate. As a result
it has become imperative that the twin climate change objectives of mitigation
and adaptation are taken into account during the development of policies
of all types, not least those with implications for the rural environment
and communities, such as the Rural Development Programmes (RDPs) being
developed for the post-2013 period. The European Commission has funded
a research project to develop guidance material for RDP Managing Authorities
and other stakeholders to ensure that the formulation of RDPs meet their
established rural development priorities whilst also ensuring that climate
change benefits are maximised. The output of the project is a step-by-step
process for integrating climate change objectives into the RDP development
process fully supported by an extensive decision support system allowing
complex environmental interactions to be assessed and considered within
high level policy development procedures. The draft manual and software
system is now available for download from the OSCAR website (http://sitem.herts.ac.uk/aeru/oscar)
and the European Commission is hosting a workshop in Brussels in November
to introduce the initiative and explore its potential.

American playing food safety lottery (?)
See: http://www.foodproductiondaily.com/Quality-Safety/Americans-playing-food-safety-lottery-says-professor/
My remark (GW): I have no opinion about food safety in the USA, but it
seems to me that too many people are interested in exaggerating the dangers,
spreading fears. In this context, our situation is not much better than
this one that we knew a few years ago when everybody was maybe too confident…

You can live in the Midwest where...
1. You've never met any celebrities, but the mayor knows your name.
2. Your idea of a traffic jam is ten cars waiting to pass a tractor.
3. You have had to switch from "heat" to "A/C" on
the same day.
4. You end sentences with a preposition: "Where's my coat at?"
5. When asked how your trip was to any exotic place, you say, "It
was different!"
