Wanted (in New-Zealand): Two Precision Agriculture Scientists
Lincoln Agritech Limited (LAL) is a leading edge research and development company with a wide variety of industrial and agri-tech projects. We seek up to two enthusiastic scientists interested in leading edge precision agriculture (PA) research focussing on speciality crops / horticulture as well as towards farm automation. Major duties of the newly recruited staff will be to develop and apply sensors, concepts and information based management systems for horticulture / speciality crops and for automation of agricultural production. The positions are permanent.

LAL is owned by Lincoln University and has a highly regarded track record for applying new and innovative engineering and science technologies to enhance New Zealand’s agriculture, industry and environment.

Reporting to our Precision Agriculture group manager, you will be working in interdisciplinary research projects mainly on developing and applying sensors, concepts and information based management systems for agriculture. A strong focus of the role is on precision farming techniques to manage nutrients, water, pesticides and biomass production in horticulture / speciality crops based on novel techniques in information acquisition and a growing automated control of equipment. You will be working in a broader team of motivated scientists and engineers in LAL conducting research and/or development of broad range of electronic sensors, biosensors, high speed machine vision and further specific high-technologies for the national and global primary industries. The PA-group of LAL supports PA-research in a well established network that includes Massey University, Lincoln University and other international relevant PA-groups as well as with farmers/growers and industry organisations in New Zealand and abroad. In this inspiring environment you will plan, execute, report and publish leading edge scientific research projects on innovations in precision agriculture.

The successful candidate will have capability in one or more of the following areas:
- Agronomy / Crop production
- Horticulture or Speciality Crops
- Agricultural engineering
and will be able to link crop production with new information based technologies as well as having a strong focus on interdisciplinary systems approaches. Experience in experimental design and implementation on farms and managing research projects are sought. We expect to appoint candidates with a PhD, though highly motivated graduates with Master’s degrees will be considered.
