Remembrance
Be aware on this day above all others in the calendar this country (UK) remembers the terrible losses of the First World War. It is usually portrayed here as a British v German conflict in support of Belgium in Picardy and Flanders rather than a pan-European tragedy. But anyone reading more understands the suffering for all the French people (Verdun) but who also struggle to understand the collapse of 1940.

We live in a better time but the young assume that Europe is open and liberal (does anyone under 50 understand the cold war?). We need more than bi-lateral reconciliation. France needs to remember its old friends as well as its new embrace across the Rhine which does it no good economically.

I love your newsletter.

My answer (GW): Thank you very much for your message.
In the list of allied countries that help France during WW1 and save it during the WW2, I put UK first since I know how much UK suffered and that, as far as numbers of non-French people dead to free France, UK came first. I hope that France will never forget this.
I hope that the British bashing in France as well as the French (& European) bashing in England will cease and that we will remain able to recognise that we always agree on the essential if not on all small details.

10th ECPA conference theme: Precision agriculture for efficient resources management under changing global conditions
12 – 16 July 2015 – ISRAEL
The 10th ECPA meeting will be held in Israel on 12-16 July, 2015. It will be organized by the Precision Agriculture team at the Agricultural Research Organization (ARO, the Volcani Center), which belongs to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Israel. ARO is the largest research center on agriculture in Israel.
Located at the Volcani Center campus in Bet-Dagan, near Tel-Aviv, ARO's six institutes are responsible for Plant Sciences, Animal Science, Plant Protection, Soil, Water and Environmental Sciences, Agricultural Engineering, and Postharvest and Food Sciences. ARO also operates four research stations, in various parts of the country, and serves as a testing center for agricultural produce and equipment. Israel's Gene Bank for Agricultural Crops is also located on the ARO Volcani Center campus. While encompassing the full range of agricultural research activities, ARO focuses in particular on arid zone agriculture, enabling Israel - a country short of all the resources required for agriculture - to achieve among the highest levels of agricultural output in the world.
ECPA meeting in Israel
One of the greatest challenges that agricultures faces the recent years is global warming and water scarcity. The growing need for food production, together with gradual changes of the climate towards warmer conditions, pose a great challenge to the efficient use of the limited amount resources available for agriculture, among them water. Precision agriculture provides technological solutions for efficient and sustainable use of such resources, including water resources. Israel, being located in an arid and semi-arid region, has been a pioneer in the development of technologies and management tools for efficient water use.
The theme of the 10th ECPA meeting on 12-16 July, 2015 in Israel will be “Efficient resources management under changing global conditions”, with emphasis on water resources. Having water as a central focus of the conference, combined with the Israeli research and industry innovations in this field will make an attractive topic and prepare the European (and global) agriculture to the altering climatic conditions.
Looking forward to seeing you in Israel!

The situation of women in Saudi Arabia is improving: they can drive

Now this is worrying! Your Yearly Dementia Test (only 4 questions)

Yep, it's that time of year again for us to take our annual senior citizen test.

Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it's important to keep mentally alert. If you don't use it, you lose it!

Here is a very private way to gauge how your memory compares to your last test.

Some may think it is too easy, but the ones with memory problems may have difficulty.

Take this test to determine if you're losing it or not.

The spaces below are so you don't see the answers until you've made your answer.

OK, relax, clear your mind and begin.

#1. What do you put in a toaster?

Answer: 'bread.' If you said 'toast', just give up now and go do something else.
And, try not to hurt yourself.
If you said, bread, go to Question #2.

# 2. Say 'silk' five times. Now spell 'silk.' What do cows drink?

Answer: Cows drink water. If you said 'milk,' don't attempt the next question. Your brain is already over-stressed and may even overheat. Content yourself with reading more appropriate literature such as Women’s Weekly or Auto World. However, if you did say 'water', proceed to Question #3.

# 3. If a red house is made from red bricks and a blue house is made from blue bricks and a pink house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a green house made from?

Answer: Greenhouses are made from glass.
If you said 'green bricks', why are you still reading this??? PLEASE, go lie down!
But, if you said 'glass,' go on to Question #4.

# 4. Do not use a calculator for this:
You are driving a bus from New York City to Philadelphia.
In Staten Island, 17 people got on the bus.
In New Brunswick, 6 people get off the bus and 9 people get on.
In Windsor, 2 people get off and 4 get on.
In Trenton, 11 people get off and 16 people get on.
In Bristol, 3 people get off and 5 people get on..
And, in Camden, 6 people get off and 3 get on.
You then arrive at Philadelphia Station.
Without going back to review, how old is the bus driver?

Answer: Oh, for crying out loud!
Don't you remember your own age?!?! It was YOU driving the bus!

If you pass this along to your friends, pray they do better than you.

PS: 95% of people fail most of the questions!
