While precision agriculture has seen significant adoption in the United States since the mid-1990s, agriculture is just embarking on the fringe of data management in which machine and agronomic data are being collected and stored on the web using servers or cloud technology. Analytical tools are being developed to draw site-specific information and new knowledge for farmers from this information. The evolution of this data management movement will allow growers, ag retailers, crop consultants, machinery manufacturers, and others in the ag community to learn more about crop production at an accelerated pace compared to the past and will be a critical contributor to meeting the future food demand for the growing world population.
