Better data means a stronger farm
As the farming industry matures and as farms consolidate, many professional
farms are seeking to run their businesses more efficiently and profitably.
To do so, farms are adopting tools and techniques used for years in
other industries.
In July 2014, Granular launched an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)
system that helps the farming community manage the entire farming cycle
from planting to harvest. Professional farms, like Silent Shade Planting
Company, already see the benefits of using Granular’s system for efficient
management and to make better decisions with operational data. More
and more professional farms are using software like Granular’s to run
their business; many in the agricultural industry expect broad adoption
of ERPs by farms in the next one to three years…

International meeting - Urban food policies Markets, catering services,
urban/rural connections
16-18 November 2015 - MONTPELLIER (France)
Public stakeholders, civil society member, development actors, researchers,
we invite you to take part to the discussions that will take place from
16 to 18 of November in Montpellier, at the international meeting on Urban
food policies.
The objective is to contribute through dialogue to a better knowledge and
understanding of urban food policies in the world, their construction, modes
of action and impacts. This meeting will provide an opportunity to show
through concrete examples from sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, the Middle
East, Asia and Latin America, that, in addition to national policies and
international agreements, cities can also make a vital contribution to food
security and sustainable food systems.

Thought of the new UK shadow environment secretary: Kerry McCarthy, a
vegan
Progress on animal welfare is being made at the EU level and I feel
it is best left to those campaigning groups working there but in the end
it comes down to not eating meat or dairy. I really believe that meat should
be treated in exactly the same way as tobacco with public campaigns to stop
people eating it.

And a reaction by another vegan in The Guardian: Vegan shadow environment
secretary’s views on meat just won’t cut it
When Kerry
McCarthy, a vegan, was appointed as shadow environment secretary, I
didn’t rush to pass judgment. A vegetarian myself, I knew it was a mistake
to caricature people. Why shouldn’t a vegan be able to talk to the farming
and agricultural industry – or any other industry, come to that? However,
in an interview with the vegan magazine Viva!life, conducted before the
leadership election, McCarthy says she believes that meat should be treated
the same way as tobacco, with public campaigns to stop people eating it.
Reading this, my heart sank.

All the discussion is (also) about orthorexia, identified as a disease…
(GW)
Orthorexia: when healthy eating turns against you
Orthorexia is an obsession with only eating food the sufferer believes
to be healthy. But while the condition can have damaging health implications,
experts are divided over a diagnosis
…We are so obsessed with nutrition, it is hard to distinguish between people
who are orthorexic and people who are just health conscious.

This
is way too close to the truth...
A group of golfing buddies, all in their 40's, discussed where they should
meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Hooters
because it wasn't far from the pier, the waitresses were young, good looking,
had big boobs and wore short-shorts.
Ten years later, at age 50+, these buddies once again discussed where
they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet
at Hooters because the food and service was good, they had many televisions
to watch the games on, and the beer selection was excellent.
Ten years later, at age 60+, the gang again discussed where they should
meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Hooters
because there was plenty of parking, they could dine in peace, and it
was good value for the money.
Ten years later, at age 70+, they discussed where they should meet for
lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Hooters because the
restaurant was wheelchair accessible and had a toilet for the disabled.
Ten years later, at age 80+, the friends discussed where they should meet
for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Hooters because
they had never been there before.
