Global Survey on the Quality of MOOCs is launched
It is a unique first Global Survey on the Quality of Open Education and Massive Open Online Courses, short MOOCs. Join our fascinating adventure if you are a MOOC learner, MOOC designer or MOOC facilitator. Contribute to our main long-term goal: the improvement of future MOOCs by developing quality indicators and tools. "We are very excited to facilitate the quality debate with all interested parties worldwide", emphasises Christian M. Stracke from the Open University of the Netherlands and MOOC expert.

The importance of the survey is highlighted by the support of the leading associations and institutions including three United Nations' organizations (UNESCO IITE, ITCILO and FAO), the International Council for Distance and Open Education, Open Education Consortium, International Community for Open Research and Education, Commonwealth of Learning, European Association of Distance Teaching Universities, European Distance and E-Learning Network, European Association of Technology-Enhanced Learning, Contact North and many more.

The Global MOOC Survey started now and is open until end of March 2017. It is designed and organized by MOOQ, the European Alliance for the Quality of MOOCs. All findings from the scientific, independent and non-profit survey will be published openly and shared online. Based on the survey results a Quality Reference Framework with quality indicators and tools for MOOCs will be developed and discussed in close collaboration with all interested stakeholders worldwide. "We will ensure that the next generation of MOOCs will meet better the personal goals and needs of the learners", underlines Christian M. Stracke, the MOOQ coordinator. "Please help us by completing the survey!"

Dear Guy, In your recent newsletter, you mention a seminar at the French Academy of Agriculture about farming robots, organised by René Autellet. This topic is of high interest for us, and I would like to ask if you could send us more material on this seminar (presentations, abstracts, etc.). I assume that the original material is in French, but we think we will understand enough to get useful information from it.
Thank you for your support and for your interesting newsletter.

A satire published in The Newyorker… Russia bans Meryl Streep movies by Andy Borowitz  January 10, 2017

MOSCOW (The Borowitz Report)—In a sweeping act of official censorship, the Russian government has banned all Meryl Streep movies from the country, effective immediately.

Moviegoers at Moscow’s Kinoteatr 16 movieplex were taken aback on Monday night when government agents stormed the projection booth and seized a copy of “Florence Foster Jenkins,” the 2016 Streep film that was unspooling.

But the full force of the ban was not felt until Tuesday morning, when the Ministry of Internal Affairs ordered police to go door to door, confiscating Streep DVDs from Russian citizens.

“I was terrified,” Vasily Dmitrovic, who lives in St. Petersburg, said. “They broke down my door. My wife was screaming. They would not leave until I handed over ‘Mamma Mia!’ ”

In an appearance on state television, Russian President Vladimir Putin offered no reason for the ban, other than to say that Streep was “overrated.”
