EFITA 2017
The EFITA 2017 congress was really interesting and impressive with a very good participation of mainly young people (around 250 inscriptions). The Hackathon as well as the B2B session were something new for the old guy I am. The keynote speakers were excellent even if I would like sometimes to hear more from real case experiments. The gala dinner in the countryside close to Pic Saint Loup was very nice.
The organisational committee (Orlabe Gadet, Jean-Pierre Chanet, Olivier Naud, Bruno Tisseyre) did a fantastic job. When I arrived at the Montpellier Agricultural University in 1970 I thought that I was close to paradise. The University as well as the Montpellier town changed a lot for the best but still are close to paradise!
EFITA 2019 will take place in Greece.

Statue to glorify Gustave Foëx at the Ag University of Montpellier

Gustave Foëx (Gustave Louis Émile Foëx, born in Marseille in 1844 - died in 1906) was a French ampelographer and a colleague of Pierre Viala.
Gustave Foëx who was Director of the National School of Agriculture of Montpellier (French: École nationale d’agriculture de Montpellier, now known as Supagro) from 1881 to 1897 was a professor of viticulture here from 1870 to 1896 and he created the school vineyard in 1876 to test the American vine-stock’s resistance to phylloxera). At the end of the 19th century, Montpellier was recognized to be THE European centre for studying vines, attracting both eminent researchers and viticulture specialists to the school.

Harris GeoSpacial
Too often in agriculture, a one-size-fits-all approach of applying uniform amounts of water, fertilizers, and pesticides is standard procedure even though it isn’t reliably effective. Now Ag businesses can tailor crop management decisions by using modern precision agriculture techniques – scientifically proven approaches that analyze remotely sensed data such as satellite and UAV imagery. Whether it’s data or analytics, Harris Geospatial Solutions is your source to maximize yields and boost profits.

Big Data as a tool to enlighten our paths (Pascal Neveu, EFITA 2017 Montpellier)

Jewish women

A Jewish boy comes home from school and tells his mother he's been given a part in the school play.

"Wonderful. What part is it?"

The boy says, "I play the part of the Jewish husband."

The mother scowls and says, "Go back and tell the teacher you want a speaking part."
