John Deere Obtains Ag Data Transparent Certification Adding New Fuel to the Slow Burning Cert (March 2018)

Farmers using John Deere’s digital interface Operations Center have an extra level of assurance that their data won’t be used against them or inappropriately shared now that the farm equipment heavyweight has obtained the Ag Data Transparent (ADT) Certification.

As farming slowly becomes more tech-enabled and data-driven, farmers have concerns about where that data flows and how it might be used by other farmers and agribusiness companies.

Ag Data Transparent

This website was created by a non-profit corporation backed by a consortium of farm industry groups, commodity organizations and ag technology providers in order to bring transparency, simplicity, and trust into the contracts that govern precision agricultural technologies.

Based upon the foundation laid by the Privacy and Security Principles for Farm Data (the Data Principles), the Ag Data Transparency Evaluator is a process by which ag technology providers voluntarily submit their ag data contracts to a simple, ten question evaluation. Answers are reviewed by an independent third party administrator, and the results are posted on this website for farmers and other ag professionals to consult and review. Only companies receiving approval are allowed to use the “Ag Data Transparent” seal.

The Privacy and Security Principles for Farm Data

The American Farm Bureau Federation, working with commodity groups, farm organizations, and agriculture technology providers, help establish the Privacy and Security Principles for Farm Data in November 2014. To date, over 37 organizations have agreed to follow these “Core Principles.” The Ag Data Transparent certification process verifies compliance.

ImpactVision, a new standard for food safety and quality

Our mission is to build a more transparent and secure global food system, using hyperspectral technology. Our software platform provides insights about the quality and characteristics of different foods non-invasively and rapidly, using image recognition and predictive learning.

ImpactVision applies machine learning to hyperspectral imagery in food processing to measure freshness, quality, and for foreign object detection in a rapid and non-invasive way. While still early stage, we were impressed by the founders. ImpactVision came out of Singularity University and has won several awards. They’re one to keep an eye on. Our coinvestors in the round include Acre Venture Partners, Xandex Ventures, and Merian Ventures.

Growing a barley crop with just machines

Growing a crop without a single person entering the field sounds like something out of a science fiction film, but one researcher has proved it is not only possible using existing technology – it can also be done cheaply.
An army of people, including sprayer operators and agronomists, would typically enter a field on numerous occasions over a cropping cycle to spray crops, monitor for signs of disease and pests, as well as harvest. Autonomous systems are available, but no one has used them to actually grow a field crop.

John Deere HarvestLab 3000 nutrient analyser

An improved web interface and increased memory capacity are among features of the latest crop constituents analyser for stand-alone use or installation on a John Deere 8000 Series self-propelled forage harvester.
The HarvestLab 3000 instrument provides real-time data gathering that can help with harvester setting decisions and subsequent feeding programmes to optimise dairy and beef production from forage crops.
It uses Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) to evaluate constituent characteristics such as moisture, dry matter, protein, starch, neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and acid detergent fibre (ADF).

Nights

Automatic correction wording: Attention!

A man received a message from his neighbour:

"Sorry sir, I am using your wife day and night, when you are not present at home.

In fact, much more than you do. I confess this now because I am feeling very much guilty.

I hope you will accept my sincere apologies".

The man took a gun and shot his wife.

A few minutes later, he received another message: "Sorry sir, spelling mistake: Wifi, not Wife"
