DLG publishes the Position Paper “Digital Farming”

The German Agriculture Society (DLG), Smart AKIS partner, publishes a new position paper on Digital Farming very much in line with Smart AKIS Network findings and recommendations. The ownership and use of agricultural data remains at the core of the demands drawn by DLG in this field.

1. Expand infrastructure for mobile telecommunication!

2. All farm data belong to the farmer!

3. Expand data protection and data security and protect agricultural operating and business data!

4. Farmers must be able to benefit from business with their data!

5. Create transparency in Big Data analysis!

6. Make public and official data available free of charge!

7. Use digitizing to bring agriculture and consumers closer together!

8. Intensify basic and further training! Digitizing presupposes qualification.

France : Facebook largement en tête chez les agriculteurs
Facebook est le premier réseau social utilisé par les paysans, que ce soit pour des sujets agricoles ou privés. Twitter progresse mais reste loin derrière.

Drones in agriculture in Africa and other ACP countries: A survey on perceptions and applications

In October 2017, the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) in partnership with the NEPAD Agency, conducted a survey to understand the perceptions surrounding the use of drones for agriculture.

Approximately 13,000 individuals (mainly English and French-speaking readers of CTA e-publications or members of CTA-managed ommunities of practice) received an invitation to participate in the survey. The aim was to understand the general perceptions on the use of drones amongst stakeholders in agriculture and development cooperation with an emphasis on African regions. 16%, or a total of 1432 individuals (of whom 91% have worked or are currently working in Africa), completed the survey and had at least a working knowledge of drones in agriculture.

Relevance of blockchain technology for agrifood (WAU - NL)

.../...
The competiveness of farming and agrifood SMEs is a key policy issue for the Netherlands. To harness the power of BCT requires the adoption of BCT by many SMEs in farming and agribusiness. Most SMEs are however too small or lack the expertise to invest in BCT by themselves. Furthermore, given the current development of BCT, the uncertainties are too high to develop a convincing business case for individual parties. It is therefore important to address the application issues in public research agendas. The main focus of research is not on the BCT technology itself, but on the application of it to suitable use cases.

Old

Forgetful doctor (Irish joke)

Dr O'Mahony tells his patient: "I have bad news and worse news, John."

"Oh dear," John replies. "What's the bad news?" asks the patient.

The doctor replies: "You only have 24 hours to live."

"That's terrible," says the patient. "How can the news possibly be worse?"

Dr O'Mahony replies: "I've been trying to contact you since yesterday."
