Global Food Forum 2018: can EU agri-food systems be again the beating heart of the European Union?

17-18 September 2018 - PAVIA
Since 2016, the Global Food Forum has involved each year key political and economic decision makers across the European Union in a participatory process, more needed than ever to unfreeze the debate at EU level and set up the foundations of a renewed ambition of EU policies having an impact on agri-food systems. Held in North Italy, the GFF gathers under the Chatham house rules a limited number of economic and decision makers taking stock willing to design the future of the EU agri-food systems and related EU policies. Each year, the conclusions and recommendations of the Forum are presented in Brussels at the European Parliament.

Internet of Things in Agriculture to Improve Overall Smart Agriculture Solution Market (Research Nester)

The global smart agriculture solution market is segmented into component solution and region. Component segment is further sub-segmented into hardware, software & services and others. Likely, hardware segment accounted for major share of overall smart agriculture solution and is expected to witness significant growth during the forecast period. Rise in demand for GPS enabled devices and agricultural drones are also the major factors which are likely to allow hardware segment to continue its dominance over the forecast period.

Global Smart Agriculture Solution Market is anticipated to grow at a robust compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.5% during the forecast period. The global smart agriculture solution market stood at revenue of around USD 10.2 Billion in 2016 and is projected to reach at a valuation of USD 38.1 Billion by the end of 2024. Further, growing adoption of smart agricultural machineries and increasing investment by leading players in order to help farmers to boost their farm yield are some of major factors which are likely to fuel the growth of global agriculture solution market.
The automated machinery guidance control segment by solution is anticipated to witness remarkable growth during the forecast period. Rising need to guide smart agricultural machineries in crop fields is likely to boost the growth of smart agriculture segment in near future.

Farmers Business Network Invests in AgriSecure to Help Farmers Transition to Organic

See: https://agfundernews.com/farmers-business-network-invests-agrisecure-help-farmers-transition-organic.html

Farmers Business Network

The FBN Network came about when farmers wanted to develop an independent, unbiased, and objective farmer-driven information source — no marketing fluff, just the facts on raw performance. They knew that if they could share their agronomic precision data with one another, they could all make better decisions on seeds and agronomics.

Working together, they knew they could learn vastly more than by looking only at just their own farms, thereby unlocking the true power of the precision farm data they’d paid for. These farmers wanted objective information on seeds, fertility, soils and dreamed of what might be discovered scientifically from having more data. They wanted transparency and to be treated fairly in the market. They wanted to build a company that reflected their values and truly put them, the farmers, first.

When these innovative farmers met with technologists, scientists, and entrepreneurs, this dream become a reality — Farmers Business Network SM. At every point along the way, the FBN team has listened closely to its earliest farmers and dozens of farmer advisors to make sure the network is building a future of farming that truly puts Farmers First.

What started as the dream of a handful of farmers in 2014 spread to a network of thousands of America’s best farmers managing over 8 million acres in just two years. As each new farmer joins the FBN Network, every member’s seed information, agronomic analytics, and buying power gets stronger. When farmers connect, farmers win - and the services, technology, and network keep growing.

A UK Farmers Perspective - What are the consequences for sustainability and the public when biotechnology innovations are withheld?

- European politicians bows to activist pressure, voting to restrict crop biotech pesticide tools, such as glyphosate and neonicotinoids
- Bans and restrictions will roll-back sustainable farming practices
- Farmers feel they are heading backwards in time, forced to adopt less ecological practices that will result in higher food prices

Never Argue with Children

A little girl was talking to her teacher about Whales.

The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it is a very large animal it’s throat was very small.

The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.

Irritated, the teacher reiterated that it was not possible for a whale to swallow a human.

The little girl said, “When I get to heaven I’ll ask Johan?

The teacher said, “What if Jonah went to hell?”

The little girl replied, “Then you ask him.”
