Apps for Europe wants to help you turn your open data application into a viable business. If you are entering your app through a local Business Lounge, you will probably make great connections that can help you on your way. When entering online, you have the chance to be selected for our international Business Lounge, that will take place at Future Everything, March 2014 in Manchester. >>> Possibilities for investors Apps for Europe invites you to be part of our investor network. The participants of the network will be connected to selected developers, startups and entrepreneurs who have a business idea, working prototype or are already running their own business based on open data. The first selection of these businesses will be done by the partners of the Apps for Europe consortium that are organizing open data events, competitions or hackathons. They have been active in the open data community for many years and have a good overview of individuals and team creating innovative services. The G2 model was developed within the the framework of the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security(GMES, now Copernicus) initiative supported by Geoland2 and SoilTrEC FP7 projects. The G2 model takes advantage of the empirical background of the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) and the Gavrilovic model, together with readily available time series of vegetation layers and 10-min rainfall intensity data to produce monthly time-step erosion risk maps at 300 m cell size. The season from October to January (the rainy season in Crete) was found to be the most critical, accounting for 80% of the annual erosion in the island. Seasonal erosion figures proved to be crucial for the identification of erosion hotspots and of risky land uses. In Crete, high annual erosion figures were detected in natural grasslands and shrublands mainly due to the intensification of livestock grazing during the past decades. The G2 model allows for the integrated spatio-temporal monitoring of soil erosion per land-use type based on moderate data input requirements and existing datasets. Download the data layers (monthly erosion, rainfall erosivity, vegetation retention, soil erodibility, Topographic influence, slope intercept). Don't Argue With Idiots See: http://vitaminl.tv/video/885 Never be late A priest was being honoured at his retirement dinner after 30 years in the parish. A leading local politician and member of the congregation was chosen to make the presentation and give a little speech at the dinner. However, he was delayed, so the priest decided to say his own few words while they waited for him to arrive. "I got my first impression of the parish from the first confession I heard here. I thought I had been assigned to a terrible place. The very first person who entered my confessional told me he had stolen a television set and, when questioned by the police, was able to lie his way out of it. He had stolen money from his parents, embezzled from his employer, had an affair with his boss’s wife, taken illegal drugs, and gave VD to his sister. I was appalled.” However, as the days went on I learned that my people were not all like that, and I had, indeed, come to a fine parish full of good and loving people." Just as the priest finished his talk, the politician arrived full of apologies for being late. He immediately began to make the presentation and gave his talk. "I will never forget the first day our parish priest arrived among us," said the politician, earnestly. "In fact, I had the great honour of being the first person to go to him for confession."
