The workshop will be divided into two parts: 1. Introduction of standardization and adoption of standards on the current landscape, this is being collected by the ICT-AGRI ERANET (http://www.ict-agri.eu). 2. Workshop contributors are requested to add to the challenges and actions to be taken in order to improve the adoption of standards or the development of new standards in the agri-food chain. Special focus is on the processes and data exchange between the Farm Management Information System (FMIS) at the farmer’s side and information systems of other stakeholders in the supply chain. The session is targeting to all agri-food stakeholders along the supply chain; from farmer to retailer and ICT system/software/service providers. Experts are invited to contribute to this workshop. Contributions cover at least one of the following topics: - Motivation and state of the art in the adoption of ICT standards to support data exchange between information systems of agri-food stakeholders. - Potential actions and motivation for further development and adoption of existing or new ICT standards for data exchange in the agri-food chain. - Specific standards and the current adoption for data exchange between the FMIS and information systems at other stakeholders in the supply chain. Ten invitees from CLA and CLA member companies were able to attend the Summit:Merav Gleit (Beeologics/Monsanto); Barbara Glenn (CLA); Jerry Hayes (Monsanto); Klemens Krieger (Bayer);Ray McAllister (CLA); Jay Overmyer (Syngenta); Dick Rogers (Bayer); Julie Schlekau (Valent U.S.A.); Raj Singh (BASF); and Jamie Thomas (Dow AgroSciences). Among the opening remarks, Barb Glenn outlined the efforts and commitment of the crop protection industry to support honey bee health. Her presentation can be viewed here. Additionally, Merav Gleit described the development and progress of RNAi technology in protecting bees from parasites and pathogens. Breakout groups brainstormed research priorities for achieving Varroa control and management. Beekeepers emphasized the importance of finding new products to control Varroa; managing current control strategies and products to improve and maintain efficacy; and cooperation from beekeepers apparently unconcerned about Varroa, whose hives are a source of infestation for others. EPA and its Office of Pesticide Programs had a strong presence, including Jim Jones, assistant administrator of the Office of Chemical Safety & Pollution Prevention, and at least nine other personnel. 11 people on a rope... Eleven people were hanging on a rope, underneath a rescue helicopter...10 men and 1 woman! However, the rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one of the party had to leave, otherwise they were all going to fall to their deaths. There were no volunteers and they were unable to decide who that person should be. Then the woman made a very touching speech: she said that she would voluntarily let go the rope, because, as a woman, she was used to giving up everything for her husband and kids or for men in general, and was used to always making sacrifices with little in return.
