International Conference on "Smart Rural Buildings: Food Security, Safety and Sustainability”: Improving knowledge for rural building design and management

SAIE Bologna Fiere 20 Ottobre 2016 - Università di Bologna 21 Ottobre 2016
SAIE Bologna Fiere October 20th, 2016 – University of Bologna October 21st, 2016

Farmers, building industry, professionals and academia meet to discuss the most topical challenges.

This conference aims at presenting the results of international research work and innovative experiences in the Rural Construction and Environmental Land Management field. It will focus on interdisciplinary contributions and include participation from the private sector and practitioners. Members of Section 2 of the Italian Association of Agricultural Engineering and other international guests will present successful models in the food & wine building and environmental sector, including the state of the art of rural buildings research. Particular attention is given to sustainability and technological innovation issues. Designers and experts in the building and construction sector, public and private institutions, farms and agrifood industries, the academic community, and professionals in related fields are invited to attend the conference. Impacts and expected research outcomes will focus on product quality, food safety, energy and resource efficiency, precision monitoring and modeling with an aim to integrate environmental, economic and social sustainability of building and equipment systems. Presentations will be made in English.

The construction and the agrifood sectors will both benefit from the outcomes of the conference. Roundtables that include partner companies, researchers, international experts, and SMEs, will address contemporary topics of interest.

SAIE, Bologna’s international building and construction platform, is an ideal venue to present contributions, share experiences and ideas, to achieve an effective exchange between academia, companies, and public and private organizations.

The first day of the conference will consist of two sessions, the first focused on construction and equipment for protection and processing of agricultural products, and the second on construction and equipment for livestock, horticultural and fruit production.

The second day will focus on perspectives and applications of research and technological development in the rural construction and rural land management fields. Attention to the contribution by PhD students, PhD, post doc, and research collaborators.

"Where are you from? You sound English".

"I'm from across the Severn," replies the man nervously.

"What do you do, just across the Severn?"

"I'm a taxidermist."

"What on earth is one of those?"

"I mount animals."
