Open Ag Data Alliance
With the mission to ensure farmers have full data access, security and privacy, OADA:
- will operate with a farmer-focused approach through a central guiding principle that each farmer owns data generated or entered by the farmer, their employees or by machines performing activities on their farm,
- will develop open reference implementations of data storage and transfer mechanisms with security and privacy protocols,
- will provide a forum for technical community discussion,
- will be led according to the processes of open standards projects that have built much of the Internet’s networking, security, web and data standards with multiple university, individual and corporations participating (often while competing in the marketplace). Examples include the Internet Engineering Taskforce (IETF), World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and The Apache Software Foundation, (which supports over 100 projects).
- will direct any financial contributions to a not-for-profit foundation whose purpose will be to enable open source projects in agriculture in service of the OADA mission.

Foodie data models for precision agriculture
The agriculture sector is a unique sector due to its strategic importance for both citizens (consumers) and economy (regional and global), which ideally should make the whole sector a network of interacting organizations.
The FOODIE project aims at building an open and interoperable agricultural specialized platform hub on the cloud for the management of spatial and non-spatial data relevant for farming production.
The FOODIE service platform deals with including their thematic, spatial, and temporal characteristics as well as their meta-information. Most of current information systems deal with data in the proprietary structure that fits the most to the purposes of each organization or individual. The structure of data itself is commonly proprietary even if there is a standard exchangeable format used by an information system. As a result, many organizations as well as individuals produce massive amounts of information for internal and external purposes. If we would like to integrate data from several sources, we need to establish a unified data model that is capable to include all the nuances of the underlying data models. In this regard, the conceptual model of FOODIE relies upon the following basic pillars: Data and service modelling in the geospatial domain relies upon the series of ISO/OGC geospatial standards and best-practices, Data and service.

Scientists' Duplicity And Conflicts Of Interest Distort Regulation And Harm Farmers (a little bit excessive - GW)
Scientists prostituting themselves by delivering “bespoke” scientific findings for their corporate sponsors and corrupting the scientific literature is a favorite trope of environmental and anti-industry activists. They rail against undisclosed conflicts of interest that, were they known, should exclude the individuals–and their technical expertise–from regulatory studies and deliberations, thus leaving the activists’ specious views largely unopposed.

But what if activist environmental scientists had their own conflicts of interest–undisclosed to governmental bodies or the public–so that their participation in regulatory bodies enabled them to push the positions and prescriptions of the organizations to which they were beholden? Wouldn’t that make the activists bleating about “transparency” and their pogroms against industry-connected scientists the height of hypocrisy? Wouldn’t that be an obvious and pernicious double standard?

A cute little old lady goes to the doctor and says,

"Doctor I have this problem with gas, but it really doesn't bother me too much. They never smell and are always silent. As a matter of fact I've farted at least 20 times since I've been here in your office. You didn't know I was farting because they don't smell and are silent."

The doctor says, "I see. Take these pills and come back to see me next week." The next week the lady returns.

"Doctor," she says, "I don't know what the heck you gave me, but now my farts, although still silent, stink terribly."

"Good," the doctor said. "Now that we've cleared up your sinuses, let's work on your hearing.
