Both deals were applauded by investors and presented agrifood tech startups with a more recent model for exiting startups in the industry than Monsanto’s acquisition of Climate Corporation back in 2013. These big deals involving big corporate ag players show the growing role of corporate investment initiatives. Syngenta Ventures was the most active strategic corporate VC in the farm tech space making five investments in 2017. Monsanto Growth Ventures, Maumee Ventures, BASF Venture Capital, Bunge Ventures, Cavallo Ventures, Taylor Farms Ventures, and Cargill also participated in deals. …/… See: https://agfundernews.com/agrifood-investment-surges-10bn-new-normal.html Cargill Launches Second Tool in New Digital Suite, Targeting Aquaculture iQuatic, Cargill’s digital platform for the aquaculture industry, is available to Cargill customers and for purchase as a standalone product. Cainthus uses various types of imaging equipment to monitor livestock operations while artificial intelligence and custom algorithms detect behavior in individual animals to monitor their health and alert the user when an action is required. The Cainthus system is able to detect food and water intake in individual animals as well as when the animals are in heat and more, says founder David Hunt. Imagery can come from drones, satellites, CCTV, and smart devices, but the most common set-up in Cainthus trials is an installation of a few dozen CCTV cameras on dairy farms. In 2017, with an improving economy, all deciles in the overall wage distribution have improved, meaning most workers finally have higher hourly wages now than in 2007, the labor market peak before the Great Recession hit. However, large gaps by gender, race, and wage level remain, and some of these gaps are increasing.
