Soil carbon sequestration could offset as much of 20% of humanity’s annual carbon footprint, according to the UN – and when it comes to actually pushing ag carbon markets forward, pinpoint accuracy in measuring soil carbon is less important than getting as many farmers as possible involved, Moorthy argues.
“Providing a directly [accurate] absolute soil carbon measurement is usually not very useful for interpreting the accuracy of the carbon credits themselves, so we usually provide uncertainty [ranges] on the carbon credits,” he said. “Furthermore, accuracy varies by geographical region based on availability of ‘ground truth’ data, local terrain variability, and other factors.”

Bringg bags $100m for logistics platform used by Albertsons, Walmart, AFN, by Jack Ellis
Bringg, a logistics management platform for grocery, foodservice, and other industries, has raised $100 million in Series E funding.
New York-based Insight Partners led the round, with seven of the startup’s existing investors — Cambridge Capital, GLP, Next47, Pereg Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, Viola Growth, and automotive magnate Shmuel Harlap — also participating.
Bringg said in a statement that the round takes its market valuation above $1 billion, making it “the first and only unicorn in last-mile delivery and fulfillment cloud technology.”
By collecting large amounts of data, Bringg’s technology allows brands, retailers, and logistics providers to optimize their fulfillment and delivery operations. Its wide-ranging product suite enables on-demand delivery — by helping clients connect more efficiently with their own drivers or third-party services — as well as ‘click and collect’ purchasing, fleet management, route optimization, and inventory oversight, among other things.

In defence of agriculture: Using facts and science, by Jonathan Lawler
Going through social media a few days ago I was pleasantly surprised to come across a post from the Ohio Farm Bureau. It was an open letter to legislators debunking the myths around animal agriculture. I know the letter’s author, Ty Higgins of Ohio Farm Bureau, and am always impressed by his passion for agriculture and willingness to advocate for farmers every time I have the opportunity to speak to him.
What impressed me about the article and open letter the most was simply the fact that it had been written. What I see Ty and his team at Ohio Farm Bureau doing is what every state level farm bureau should be doing across the country. I hear from farmers around the country, and world, through my own farming experiences and through my social media outreach.

Here in Indiana, I have seen animal-rights activists and farmers who sell protein labeled as “better” because of pastures or non-GMO feed work together to undermine conventional ag. I have no problem with farmers who take a holistic approach and pasture animals versus confinement, but that also comes with a price tag that average consumers cannot pay. When they use moral superiority and guilt to sell their products, that is not OK. It is not fair to other farmers who do not have NGO media and PR backing.
As farmers, we need to start holding these organizations and companies accountable. Let them know that we are not OK with misinformation. We are not OK with being called polluters, poisoners, or, in the case of animal ag, murderers. If they can buy a farmer’s harvest and make a profit from it, then they can defend that farmer too.
Farming is already a tough job and now we are expected to be doing our own PR on top of everything else.
So, thank you Ohio Farm Bureau for your support.

Our world in data: Which countries have mandatory childhood vaccination policies? by Tatjana Marks and Samantha Vanderslott
With the widespread rollout of COVID-19 vaccines globally, some countries have started to consider mandatory vaccination, although no country has yet to make vaccines mandatory for its population.1 While COVID-19 has resurfaced the debate on vaccination policies, it has been an important topic for many other diseases. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that vaccines save two to three million lives each year (excluding COVID). The development of vaccines against vaccine-preventable childhood diseases has been a key driver in the decline of child mortality.
Despite it being such an important topic, it is surprising that information about which countries have mandatory vaccine policy is lacking, and it is childhood vaccines under a country’s national immunization schedules that are most commonly made mandatory.

Estrela admite el bajo ritmo de ejecución de las diferentes planificaciones. Según el último informe oficial de seguimiento de los 25 planes de cuenca de todo el país —aquí se incluyen los que son de competencia estatal y los que son autonómicos—, en diciembre de 2019 solo se había ejecutado el 19,8% de las inversiones previstas para el periodo comprendido entre 2015 y 2021. En esas cuentas se incluyen las inversiones estatales y las autonómicas. El director general del Agua asegura que el nivel de ejecución en el caso solo de la Administración general del Estado a finales de 2019 rondaba el 35%.
Los planes de cuenca que ha sacado a información pública ahora el ministerio prevén una inversión total de 21.000 millones de euros para los próximos seis años, de los que 8.000 los deberá ejecutar la Administración central. La partida de mayor cuantía es la que se corresponde con los objetivos ambientales, en la que se incluye la depuración de aguas urbanas, que asciende hasta los 10.546 millones de euros (lo que supone el 50% de toda la inversión prevista). Al abastecimiento y al regadío le corresponden 5.141 millones, es decir, casi el 25% de todo lo comprometido.
