See the incredible collection developed by Alain Fraval GEO (Group on earth observation GEO is an intergovernmental partnership connecting government institutions, academic and research institutions, data providers, businesses, engineers, scientists and experts to enhance the availability, access and use of Earth observation data. In 2015, a GEO ministerial meeting was held in Mexico City, during which world leaders pledged to support the openness of Earth observation data for the next decade by signing the Mexico City Ministerial Declaration. The main priority engagement areas of GEO include the United Nations 2030 Agenda for a Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. In addition to more than 70 Work Programme activities and initiatives addressing global needs, coordination and knowledge gaps in Earth observation. The GEO mission also includes building the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) as a system of coordinated and independent Earth observation, information and processing systems that interact to provide access to a variety of information in both public and private sectors. GEOSS also helps to understand the Earth processes and improves the predictive capabilities of decision-making. GEOSS includes more than 400 million open data sources from more than 150 national and regional providers (e.g. NASA and ESA), international organizations (e.g. WMO) and commercial sectors (e.g. Digital Globe). Plan4all Plan4all is a global non-profit association of legal entities providing access to and support for geospatial data for planning activities and decision making processes. Plan4all sustains and further enhances results of multiple research and innovation projects and transfers results of such activities into practice. Plan4all engages multiple stakeholders into design of innovative solutions based on Earth observation data via community building activities including the INSPIRE Hackathons. The idea of establishing Plan4all association arose in the period of 2009 and 2011 as a result of the eContentplus project Plan4all. The goal of the Plan4all project was to collaborate on data specifications for the INSPIRE Directive. Plan4all itself was established as a result of this project and the following projects Plan4business, FOODIE, OpenTransportNet and SDI4Apps. The association was founded by 3 Czech organizations: University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (UWB), Help Service – Remote Sensing (HSRS) and Czech Center for Science and Society (CCSS). Their goal was to ensure long-term sustainability and further development of all the above-mentioned projects. The association was formed in 2015. Since then, the membership has grown to 60 members from Europe, Asia, Africa and America. Plan4all is actively involved in the execution of international Horizon 2020 projects. Plan4all is a member of other international organisations including: - Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) - Research Data Alliance (RDA) - Big Data Value Association (BDVA) - Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN) In addition to that, Plan4all is the national coordinator of the Research Data Alliance in the Czech Republic. Plan4all is also involved in a number of H2020 projects including SIEUSOIL, PoliRural, EO4Agri, EUXDAT, PoliVisu, DUET, S4AllCities and RDA Europe 4.0. See futurefarming.com IoT and data science will boost foodtech in the post-pandemic era Even as e-grocery usage has skyrocketed in our coronavirus-catalyzed world, brick-and-mortar grocery stores have soldiered on. While strict in-store safety guidelines may gradually ease up, the shopping experience will still be low-touch and socially distanced for the foreseeable future. This begs the question: With even greater challenges than pre-pandemic, how can grocers ensure their stores continue to operate profitably? See techcrunch.com Fully digitalized farming is nearly a reality. Emerging economies must keep pace, by Alisher Tyazhin It is no secret that the future of farming is fully digital. It is also no secret that farming at present is already largely digital. Precision farming – the use of sensors, drones, data, and robotics – has the power to revolutionize agricultural sustainability through improved crop yields, efficient water usage, and reduced use of harmful chemical pollutants like pesticides. Making that fully digital future a reality, however, is easier said than done. It requires both experimentation and a major investment in technology and training. With the EU set to put its colossal financial weight behind digitalization in agriculture over the coming decade, it’s vital that emerging economies — particularly those on Europe’s border dependent on the continent’s markets to sell their produce — keep up the pace. Otherwise, they risk being left behind. .../... See agfundernews.com Why isn't there an eBay for ag? Tupy People in pre-industrial Europe generally lived a miserable, hand-to-mouth existence which would be foolish to romanticize. Indeed, a census taken in the Alençon area in France at the end of the 17th century found that of the 410,000 inhabitants, 48,051 were beggars. That amounts to about 12 per cent of the population. “In Brittany, of a population of 1,655,000, there were 149,325 beggars, or about 9 per cent.” See humanprogress.org Good old days (?????): Harvesting Scene by Adrian Paul Allinson (1890–1959)
